If you’ve ever stopped by our refill bar with your favorite bottle in hand, first—thank you. Refilling is one of the simplest, most impactful ways to reduce waste, and we’re so grateful you’re doing it with us.
You might’ve noticed a little sign (or heard us gently mention) that we ask all containers be clean and dry before we refill them. And we get it—sometimes it feels like an extra step. But there’s a good reason behind it (actually, a few good reasons), and we want to share the “why” behind the policy.
It’s about product safety.
When a container still has a little moisture or leftover product inside, it can cause mold or bacteria to grow—especially in natural formulas that don’t contain harsh preservatives. Refilling into a dry, clean container helps keep everything safe and shelf-stable for as long as possible.
It keeps the products working the way they should.
Even tiny traces of an old product can interact with what you’re refilling—changing the scent, texture, or how it performs. That all-purpose cleaner that’s usually amazing? Not so great if it ends up mixed with last month’s laundry soap. Starting with a clean container ensures the product you love works the way it’s supposed to.
It honors the makers.
We source many of our refill bar items from small-batch, women-owned, and local brands who put a ton of thought into their formulations. A clean refill is a small way we can all respect the care they’ve put into their work.
It makes the refill process smoother—for everyone.
Clean containers mean fewer spills, less cleanup, and a more seamless experience for our team and customers alike. It helps keep the refill bar welcoming, efficient, and—let’s be honest—a little less sticky.
Need help? We’ve got you. If you’re unsure whether a container is ready to be refilled, just ask—we’re happy to take a look. And if you need a new container, we always have some on hand that are perfect for refills and built to last.
At the end of the day, this isn’t about perfection. It’s about intention. We’re all here because we care about doing better—one refill, one small swap, one thoughtful choice at a time.
Thanks for being part of that with us.
